A blank piece of paper may not look like much, but with a little sketching and cutting you can create a masterpiece. My work tells stories through the negative spaces in the paper, meticulously sketched designs cut away to reveal whimsical scenes. What fascinates me about the medium of papercutting, is that you can pull people out of the ordinary and place them in a world of make believe and possibilities.

My artwork is a meditative way for me to express my creativity in a complex and intricate way. I have always felt a deep connection to the earth, and my artwork features flowers, plants, and animals which have interested me from a very young age. I try to show nature through my own eyes, bringing the complexity and interconnectivity of the natural world from the stark white paper. 

My method has developed from trial and error. I draw my designs on the reverse side of my paper, I then use an X-acto knife to cut away the negative spaces, which means that I have to design the piece in reverse, because the image will be flipped when it’s complete. In the early days, this led to some hilarious but frustrating mistakes.  Now after ten years, I feel like I am still working to perfect my craft.
